The installer for this program installs the needed files to run this program onto your hard disk in a folder called "VBANYAN." You can also run the program directly off the CD-ROM. However, the program runs more efficiently from the hard disk.
To run the program, Macintosh users should double-click the application "Virtual Banyan." Windows95 users should double-click the program called "VBANYN95.EXE." (If you attempted to install the Virtual Banyan or are running the program on Windows 3.1, double-click a program called "VBANYN31.EXE"; however, be aware that this program is untested and unsupported.)
For Macintosh Users:
A fresh installation of QuickTime can solve many problems. For your convenience, the QuickTime 2.5 installer is included on this disc.
If you are unsure whether you have QuickTime 2.5 installed, you can check your "Extensions" folder in the "System Folder" for the extension "QuickTime." Perform a "Get Info" on the file (by selecting the file then pulling down the "File" menu to "Get Info") and check to see if it is version 2.5. If it is not there, or is a previous version, we strongly recommend that your run the QuickTime 2.5 installer by double-clicking on the icon labeled "Install QuickTime" which is found on the CD-ROM.
For Windows Users:
A fresh installation of QuickTime can solve many problems. This program requires QuickTime 2.1.2 or higher -- including the extension for QuickTimeVR. When installing, the installer will ask if you want to install QuickTime. If you are unsure about whether QuickTime has been installed, go ahead and have it re-installed.
This installer also installs a QuickTime browser plug-in which is NOT REQUIRED for the Virtual Banyan. You may choose to delete it from your browser's plug-ins folder after installation.
To Move Journals, Bookmarks, etc.
Journal entries, the bookmark, and game scores are not stored on the CD-ROM, but are stored in a special folder in your system on the hard disk. This folder is also called "VBanyan;" on the Macintosh this folder is located in the "Preferences" folder of your "System Folder"; on Windows95, it is located in the "Windows" directory. To move these to another computer, copy the entire folder to a floppy disk, and then copy it onto the appropriate location on the new computer. It must be located in the appropriate location to be recognized by the "Virtual Banyan" program.
